The first step in successfully TREATING STOMACH ULCERS is to kill the Helicobacter pylori critters. This is done by swallowing a course of an antibiotic which eradicates it.

Next, the ulcer needs a chance to heal. This is done by stopping acid splashing against it by stopping the stomach from making acid with drugs like omeprazole (oh-mip-razol). Giving up smoking has also been shown to speed up the healing time of stomach ulcers. Of course cutting out alcohol is mandatory.

Raising the head of your bed and eating small frequent meals with none just before bedtime also helps.

Finally, there's the pain. This requires pain relievers but not of the aspirin type family so no voltaren, cataflam, brufen etc. Mild opiums like Codeine are ideal.
