It is caused by bacterial growth and characterised by
a thick yellow discharge from the eye, often enough
to stick the eye shut overnight.
Treatment of Eye Infection - sticky eye:
- Antibiotic
eye drops.
- Dilute salt
water cotton swabs to wipe the eyes.
Remember to wash your hands often to prevent spread.
In older children and adults, eye infections are more
often caused by viruses attacking the lining over the eye called the
conjunctiva. This is characterised by red, watery, itchy eyes. Relief
is given by antihistamines and artificial tears. It takes about a
week to run its course.
