Iodine Information
IODINE is an important naturally occuring mineral for your body to function normally. The main use of iodine by your body is by a small organ called the thryroid (pronounced thigh-roy-duh), at the front of your neck to make a hormone called Thyroxine. Your doctor may suspect you have a deficiency by your symptoms of lethargy, and gaining weight rapidly. Long-term deficiency is rare in Western society, but if it happens for long enough the thyroid gland in your neck will actually grow into a neck bulge called a goitre.
