IODINE is an important naturally occuring
mineral for your body to function normally.
The main use of iodine by your body is by a small organ
called the thryroid (pronounced thigh-roy-duh), at
the front of your neck to make a hormone called Thyroxine. This is
the energy pedal of your body. The more you have, the more revved
up your body feels.
Iodine Body Functions:
- Heat and Energy
production
- Metabolism
of fat
- Physical and
Mental development
- Production
of Thyroid hormone
Iodine Uses:
- Goiter - enlargement
of the thyroid gland
- Hyperthyroidism
- too much thyroxine production
- Hypothyroidism
- too little thyroxine production
Your doctor may suspect you have a deficiency by your symptoms of
lethargy, and gaining weight rapidly. Long-term deficiency is rare
in Western society, but if it happens for long enough the thyroid
gland in your neck will actually grow into a neck bulge called a goitre.
The US RDA for Iodine is 150 mcg per day.
