Urinary Tract Infection Symptoms and Treatment

Urinary Tract Infection Cause

Urinary tract infections are caused by bacterial overgrowth in your urinary tract. This can be anywhere from the urethra - urine exit - the bladder, and higher up into your kidneys. Because the urethra is closer to the bladder in females urinary tract infections are a lot more common in women. Very often bacteria reach the urinary system from the bum when wiping, or from transfer during sex.

Symptoms of Urinary Tract Infections

  • Burning when you pee.
  • Frequent urination due to irritation of your bladder.
  • Feeling you must go right away when you feel an urge.
  • Foul odor or cloudy pee.
  • Fever and pain in your sides suggests and infection that has reached your kidneys i.e. pyelonephritis - this is far more serious.

Treatment of Urinary Tract Infections

Drink more water. This helps flush out the bacteria.
Antibiotics. These tablets for 3 to 7 days kill bacteria just like they would for pneumonia or any other bacterial infection.

DoctorSecrets! " A glass of Cranberry juice a day is a natural remedy shown to prevent urinary tract infections. It stops bacteria from being able to stick. Another natural remedy is lactobacillus bacteria found in live culture yogurt or in capsules from Health Food Stores".

It might help but it's meant as a preventative. For a full blown infection bet on antibiotics.
