Bee Sting Treatment

bee sting

Bees will sting you if you cross their path as a defense of their territory.

BEE TREATMENT: The first thing you'll need to do after a sting is put some distance between yourself and the hive and then use a credit card or key to scrape out the black stinger of the bee if it's still stuck into your skin.

If you have a bee allergy your next stop should be a hospital for observation and adrenaline (epinephrine) injection. A bee sting in these folks can cause life threatening breathing difficulty.

But for ordinary bee stings here's some stuff you can try to remedy that aching sting:

  • Wet an aspirin tablet and then wipe it over the bee sting bump - once you're not allergic to aspirin. This acts as an anti inflammatory agent easing the swelling and pain.
  • Baking soda or ammonia solution also reduce pain from a bee sting but by changing the acidity of the sting site.
  • Use a paste of meat tenderizer on the bump. This helps to 'digest' the chemicals in the sting that make it painful.
  • Ask your pharmacist for an antihistamine and acetaminophen by mouth. These will stop the itch and swelling, and ease the pain respectively.

How to tell a Bee Sting Allergy:

  • Trouble breathing or swallowing.
  • Swelling that spreads far from the initial bee sting.
  • Wheals, redness, and itching spreading away from the bee sting.

If you notice these symptoms you'll need to head to a hospital for treatment. Bee sting allergy can kill! And in future, you should walk with a bee sting kit when traveling around in the outdoors.
